What Is Marijuana Anonymous?

Marijuana Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share our experience, strength, and hope with each other that we may solve our common problem and help others to recover from marijuana addiction.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop using marijuana. There are no dues or fees for membership. We are self-supporting through our own contributions. MA is not affiliated with any religious or secular institution or organization and has no opinion on any outside controversies or causes. Our primary purpose is to stay free of marijuana and to help the marijuana addict who still suffers achieve the same freedom. We can do this by practicing our suggested twelve steps of recovery and by being guided as a group by our twelve traditions.

Addicts and Non-Addicts Are Welcome

All meetings in Sacramento are "open meetings" with everyone welcome to attend, including health care professionals or students who wish to observe a meeting. Also welcome are loved ones or friends of marijuana addicts looking for information or wanting to provide support. Because the meetings are anonymous, no one has to identify themselves unless they wish to do so. All meetings are free with no dues or fees required. As a courtesy, the meeting secretary will be glad to sign any attendance slips. Children are welcome but no childcare facilities are available.

Brief History of Sac MA

Several Marijauna Addiction 12 Step Groups met in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1989 and formed Marijuana Anonymous. In 2004 the first local MA meeting startd at UC Davis - moving off campus the next year to the Unitarian Church of Davis. By 2006 the Davis meeting migrated to Sacramento at Kaiser near Cal Expo ( since then there have been no MA meetings in Davis). Partly because Kaiser changed the meeting room with little notice, the next location was the United Central Methodist Church (UCMC) at 53rd and H St. where another meeting had already started. In 2008 these meetings fromed the Keep Off The Grass Group. Also in 2008, two separate meetings began at the Church of the Nazarene on Arden Way on Tues and Thurs and are now joined as the Beyond Your Wildest Dreams group.
